Light of Hope Ceremony
Each April during Child Abuse Prevention Month, CASA Jefferson, Inc. hosts a Light of Hope Ceremony to honor the children lost in Jefferson Parish the previous year to child abuse. On April 15 from 1:00-3:00pm, in a partnership with the Jefferson Children's Advocacy Center, a tree will be planted in the Memorial Grove in Lafreniere Park in honor of the 31 children lost in 2014. A bronze leaf will hang in the Robert Deviney Foundation Center Lobby on the "Tree of Life" commemorating the children's lives. "In 2014, in the state of Louisiana, child fatalities decreased to 31 children, which is 11 children less than in 2013," says CASA Jefferson Executive Director, Rosana Gonzalez. "Effective child abuse prevention activities succeed because of the meaningful connections and partnerships created between child welfare, education, health, community- and faith-based organizations, businesses and law enforcement agencies. CASA Jefferson believes that our communities must make every effort to promote programs and activities that benefit children and their families." The ceremony will also recognize outstanding members in our community making a difference in child abuse prevention. This year?s award recipients include Ronnie White, a CASA Advocate, Angela Williams, the Department of Family and Child Services Worker of the Year, and community professional, Dr. John Ryals.
