Join the JCYP for a VIRTUAL Coffee & Community with Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser! This is the same great event series, with BYOB (bring your own breakfast) and WFH (work from home) benefits!
Billy Nungesser is the 54th Lieutenant Governor of the state of Louisiana. As Lieutenant Governor, he serves as the Commissioner of the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism which includes State Museums, State Parks, Tourism, the State Library, the Office of Cultural Development, the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board, the Office of Tourism and Volunteer Louisiana.
Prior to this position as head of the State’s Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, he was the President of Plaquemines Parish from 2006 to 2014. Nungesser knows the spotlight well from the role he played in getting the attention of state, federal officials, and national media raising awareness of the unmet needs of Louisianans after natural and man-made disasters. He was instrumental in securing hurricane relief funds after Hurricane Katrina, which inspired him to run for Plaquemines Parish President, and then as the voice of frustration after the BP Oil Spill. As a result of his hard work and dedication during those troubling times, he’s been called the “hardest working man in Louisiana” by the national media.
Since taking office in 2016, he and his team have guided the state to record breaking tourism numbers in each of the last four consecutive years.
Upon taking office, several state parks were slated to close. Today, not only have they all remained open, but many are now making money.
In July 2019, he was elected as Chairman of the National Lieutenant Governors Association by his peers, where he promoted shared priorities and fosters multi-state solutions to mutual problems such as imported seafood and seafood safety.
Over the years, he has helped hundreds of charitable organizations, but those he is most passionate about involve the elderly, veterans and special needs citizens.
In 2019, he was elected to a second term with 68% of the vote, 888,000+, more votes than any other statewide elected official since 2008. He truly is a Lieutenant Governor for ALL of Louisiana.
