The 2019 Annual Meeting Panel will focus on how strengthening a public school system can transform a community for a bright future. Join us for a panel discussion about the current school system, areas of focus for the coming year, and the business community's role in building a bright future for Jefferson Parish Schools. We hope to see you there!

With experiences ranging from running a $3 million annual campaign for United Way of Eastern Maine, leading statewide policy and media advocacy efforts, and playing a key strategy role in all 24 of Stand Louisiana’s electoral victories - Carrie excels at creating and executing winning campaigns. As Executive Director since April 2015, Carrie and the rest of the Stand team continue to engage parents, educators, and community leaders around Louisiana to improve education for the 700,000 kids in our public schools.
2019 Panelists
JOHN C. WHITE, LOUISIANA STATE SUPERINTENDENT OF EDUCATION
John White was named Louisiana State Superintendent of Education in January of 2012. That year he launched Louisiana Believes, the state’s plan to ensure every child is on track to a college degree or a professional career. In the time since, White has worked to unify the state’s fragmented early childhood system, to modernize curriculum, to professionalize the preparation of educators, to provide pathways to prosperity for all high school graduates, and to provide families with expansive school options irrespective of their financial means.
Louisiana Believes includes nationally recognized initiatives such as Early Childhood Networks, Louisiana Teacher Leaders, ELA Curriculum Guidebooks, the Believe and Prepare Teacher Residency, and Jump Start career education. Superintendent White and his team have also led the post-Katrina renovation and unification of schools in New Orleans and the creation of the Baton Rouge Achievement Zone.
More Louisiana students graduated from high school in 2017 than in any year in the state’s history. Nearly 26,000 high school seniors in the class of 2017 earned a college-going ACT score (18+), an increase of 7,397 students over the class of 2012. Since 2012, the number of students earning Advanced Placement credit each year has increased by more than 3,700, an increase of 137 percent. And Louisiana made greater improvement than any state in the nation in the 2017-2018 school year in the percentage of its graduates completing financial aid forms to continue their education after high school.
Prior to being named State Superintendent, White served as Superintendent of the Louisiana Recovery School District. He previously worked under Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Chancellor Joel Klein as Deputy Chancellor for the New York City Department of Education and served as Executive Director of Teach For America – Chicago and Teach For America – New Jersey. He began his career as an English teacher at William L. Dickinson High School in Jersey City, New Jersey.
White’s writings on education have been published in the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, the Daily Beast, The Hill, and the Brookings Institution’s Evidence Speaks.
White received a B.A. in English with distinction from the University of Virginia and a Master's in Public Administration from New York University. He serves as chairman of the independent non-profit advocacy organization Chiefs for Change and is an Academic Visitor to the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
DR. CADE BRUMLEY, JEFFERSON PARISH SUPERINTENDENT OF EDUCATION
A product of the public education system in Louisiana, Dr. Cade Brumley has also invested his entire professional career in Louisiana’s public system as an educator. He has served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. Prior to his March 2018 appointment in Jefferson, he served six years as DeSoto Parish Schools Superintendent in Northwest Louisiana. During his time in DeSoto, results greatly improved and the system now ranks as one of Louisiana’s top ten districts for student academic achievement. DeSoto also earned its first “A” rating from the Louisiana Department of Education under his leadership. Most recently, Dr. Brumley also served as the President of the Louisiana Association of School Superintendents.
Dr. Brumley led JPPSS in adopting a district-wide Tier 1 curriculum, which equips all schools with the highest-rated learning resources available. He also created a Transformation Network to provide extra support and resources for our highest-need schools as part of an equity agenda, and secured nearly $2 million in additional funding for these students and educators.
Dr. Brumley holds a Bachelors of Science in Education from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, a Masters of Education in School Administration from Louisiana State University – Shreveport, and a Doctorate of Education in School Leadership from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. He has served as adjunct instructor at multiple universities and has supported numerous non-profit organizations in the areas of organizational leadership. He has completed several post-doctorate fellowships centered around urban education in America.
An avid marathoner, Dr. Brumley has raised in excess of $25,000 through running for organizations such as St. Jude’s, Wounded Warrior Project, and the ALS Association. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time in outdoor pursuits, visiting with friends, spending time at church, and even going to the movies.
Dr. Brumley is known for frequently reminding us all that, “the best is yet to come for Jefferson Parish Schools.”
