Greening NOLA Campus Move Out is an initiative in collaboration with STEM Library Lab, Tulane's Office of Sustainability, TU's Trash to Treasure, and Loyola University to divert the thousands of pounds of waste produced every year by students vacating their residence halls. It is estimated that last year only 11% of student waste (35,000 pounds) was diverted from the landfill. We aim to double that collection intake in 2026 with your help!
The Solution: You! We need Volunteer Teams to help intercept, sort, and redistribute these goods to our New Orleans neighbors in need. This involves stationing outside dorm halls, loading trucks with donations, and sorting items at donation hubs.
The Ask: The first step is Register a Volunteer Team! We are looking for motivated individuals to make a commitment to recruit and organize a team from their network. Mobilize your office, Mardi Gras krewe, church group, sports team, or neighborhood group.
Who You Are Helping: Over 20 Community Partners have signed on to accept diverse categories of donations, benefitting underfunded and disenfranchised groups such as teachers, women and children's shelters, recovery houses, food banks, seniors, the unhoused, and animal shelters.
Next Steps: Once registered, Blair, our Volunteer Coordinator, will reach out to you with more information and is happy to setup a phone call or zoom to answer your questions. A Signup Genius link with individual shift dates and times will then go out in early April. Ask your team members to signup for dates and times that work for them. Volunteers can signup for multiple days and multiple shifts.
