About Us

Discover our 6 visitor centers located across southern Louisiana: Lafayette, Eunice, Thibodaux, Barataria, New Orleans and Chalmette. Learn about South Louisiana's history, cultures, and environment. Walk our trails and canoe and kayak our waterways in Barataria, take a historical walking tour in Thibodaux, participate in cooking demonstrations, Cajun music, and crafting in Eunice, take in a jazz concert in New Orleans, and experience history in Chalmette! We also manage Chalmette National Cemetery, with over 15,000 burials of those who fought in wars from the War of 1812 through Vietnam.

The Barataria Preserve Visitor Center and most trails, except for the Twin Canals Trail, are closed for construction for the next two years. We invite the public to join our Park Rangers at the Town of Lafitte's Civic Center and library on Wednesdays and Thursdays 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., beginning Wednesday February 18, for programs and guided hikes on the Wetland Trace Trail: https://townofjeanlafitte.com/trails/
