“Where Are The Workers? Greater New Orleans” Convening, April 10, to Explore
Solutions, Experiences and Perceptions of the Modern Greater New Orleans Workforce
Clover (formerly Kingsley House) will host an essential gathering aimed at addressing the pressing challenges facing the workforce of Orleans and Jefferson parishes on Wednesday, April 10, from 9:00 am. – 4:00 p.m. The action-oriented “Where Are The Workers-Greater New Orleans?” convening, seeks to foster collaboration among various stakeholders dedicated to bridging existing gaps in workforce development. Registration for the event is now open and can be completed at http://clovernola.org/watw/. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required.
The one-day conference is sponsored by Agenda for Children and Clover, and is the first step of a broader plan to develop and implement an ambitious vision for how community and governmental organizations can effectively collaborate to drive training and employment opportunities within the region. Through interactive discussions and planning sessions, attendees will collectively explore avenues to advance workforce initiatives and enhance economic prosperity for ALICE (Asset, Limited, Income, Constrained, Employed) residents of the Greater New Orleans region. The hope is that convening participants will lend their energy, intellect and passion to developing a sustainable model for providing ALICE individuals with access to careers that take into account the insights learned from the recently completed “Where Are The Workers-Greater New Orleans?” report, which was funded in part by lead sponsor, the Greater New Orleans Foundation.
The collaborative “Where Are The Workers-Greater New Orleans?” project is spearheaded by a coalition of local nonprofit agencies and underscores a concerted effort to address the evolving needs of the local workforce. Drawing inspiration from a major research project in Northeast Ohio conducted by the Fund for Our Economic Future, “Where Are The Workers - Greater New Orleans?” aims to catalyze actionable solutions tailored to the unique context of the Greater New Orleans area.
Distinguished speakers slated to headline the event include:
- Keynote speaker, Bishara Addison, is Director of Workforce Innovation for The Fund for Our Economic Future. She served in a leading capacity on a similar analysis of Northeast Ohio’s talent landscape and is intricately involved in the progress made in that area using their research outcomes. In her current role, Bishara leads talent development initiatives in support of the Fund’s agenda to achieve equitable economic growth. Her work focuses on convening and aligning regional and national partners to support innovative solutions related to labor market participation and job quality.
- Guest speaker, Dr. Stephanie Hoopes, National Director of United for ALICE, developed the ALICE (Asset, Limited, Income, Constrained, Employed) measures for a pilot study of the low-income community in Morris County while at Rutgers University-Newark, and has since overseen the expansion to a national effort with ALICE data for all 3,000 U.S. counties. Her research has garnered the attention of local, state, and national media.
